Following another successful tender submission, we’re delighted to have been awarded the contract to deliver the Hinckley Town Centre wayfinding strategy on behalf of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
Background
The borough council, located in south west Leicestershire, is implementing a new wayfinding strategy across the town centre of Hinckley. The objective is to improve how residents, visitors, and shoppers navigate the town, enhancing safety, comfort and confidence through strategically positioned and expertly designed signage
The initiative supports town centre regeneration, promotes walkability, and contributes to an improved visitor experience, in line with the council’s Town Centre Public Realm Masterplan.

Project Objectives
- Enhance Visitor Experience – improving how people experience and move through the town centre. Ensuring signage is more legible, more navigable and more welcoming.
- Support HBBC’s Town Centre Regeneration Plan – promoting a sense of place and pride in the town, improving awareness of less visited areas of the town, while complementing the improved public spaces with quality design and signage.
- Promote Sustainable, Active Travel – by clearly communicating distances and walking times, the wayfinding system will encourage walking and reduce car dependency. It will also increase awareness of the town’s compact layout, helping users realise what a walkable town Hinckley is.
- Improve Accessibility and Inclusivity – wayfinding signage will be designed to be accessible to all users, including those with visual impairments or mobility issues.
- Create a Resilient and Flexible System – we will supply a system that is robust and durable against weather, wear and vandalism. It will also be modular and adaptable, allowing updates to messaging to be made without needing complete replacements.
- Celebrate Local Identity and Heritage – Wayfinding should communicate first and foremost with the most regular users of a space. It should resonate with their sensibilities and respect the environment they inhabit. This project will enhance people’s love for their local environment and bring visibility to Hinckley’s “hidden gems”.
Project Requirements
The project is split into three stages. We’re currently underway in the design phase, with initial surveys being undertaken, working with Leicestershire County Council to get all necessary consents, and submitting initial design and placement proposals.
We will then move into phase 2, the manufacture and supply of all items to strict deadlines and quality standards. Phase three will see the removal and disposal of current wayfinding signage, and the installation and maintenance of their replacements, including all health and safety and traffic management.
